One of the most helpful aspects of my prayer life recently has been to recite back to God what the Bible says about him.
Not that he needs reminding of it, but I do.
Sometimes when I pray and forget who God is, it’s tremendously difficult to pray with a spirit of surrender and trust in him. Recently, as I’ve been praying, several verses have come to mind about God’s love and his desire for people to come to him, repent of their sin, and enjoy him forever.
I tried my best with this poem to stick to verses from Scripture that have a common theme of God’s love. Though we are ridden with sin, God made a way for us to know him and have a relationship with him if we are willing to repent of our sin. He’s reaching out to the lost and broken and wants to show them his love.
I hope this poem conveys that to you.
“Your Desire”
You don’t delight in the death of the wicked, But you are patient, Not willing that any should perish But that all should reach repentance. You run after the one that leaves the ninety-nine And bring him back to be enraptured with joyful acceptance. You proclaim to the backsliders, “How can I give you up?” While we were still sinners, You were reaching out to us in love. Of the soldiers who killed you, You said, “Father, forgive them.” You came into the world to save it, Sparing for now condemnation. You took hell on the cross, So we might not bear it. You went running after the prodigal To kiss and embrace him. You came for the harvest, Not the religious elite. You came to be a shepherd And bring back wayward sheep. You came to seek and save the lost Of whom I am chief.
I’ve included the Scripture references that I based the poem off below. Thanks for reading!
